Local Area

Hamalevri is a small and peaceful village on the slopes of a valley that leads to the sea.  It offers the tranquillity for a quiet holiday whilst being only 5 minutes’ drive from the resorts of Sfakaki and Stavromenos.  A few minutes further along the road is the busier and more vibrant resort of Platanes.

There’s a selection of supermarkets in Sfakaki and Stavromenos where you will find pretty-much everything you’ll need for your holiday.  A little further afield there’s even Lidl stores in Platanes and Rethymno (cheap water!)

Crete’s third city is an eclectic mix of old and new, with its narrow meandering shopping streets sitting between the more modern side of town and the picturesque harbour, with its huge selection of waterside tavernas

About 70 km along the National Road is the larger and more cosmopolitan city of Chania, once Crete’s capital.  A must for shopaholics!

There’s really something for everyone in Crete.

Water Splash Park in Hersonnisos, just over an hour and a half away.  A must for the kids and a great day out.

Samaria Gorge or Imbros Gorge, 1¾ or 1 hour away.  Truly spectacular and challenging walks

Knossos – a Minoan Palace near Heraklion.

Museums including Nautical museum  in Chania, Archaeological Museum, Historical Museum in Heraklion,  and of course the Commonwealth war graves at Souda and German war graves at Maleme.
